One of the hazily attributed to Sutcliffe murders eventually turned out to have been done by some other psycho. One of the ones over in Preston in a lock up or something.

For a long time there was a rumour that just wouldn't go away that there was a second ripper simultaneously active who was a cop. David Peace was gonna write a book about it called 'The Yorkshire Rippers' but didn't follow through.

There's a lot of cases where it seems the police were conniving with them as well. 😬

Also it's cranky stuff but the category of lone wolf serial killer and the Mindhunter model is extremely dubious for a lot of the big cases.

Fred of Fred and Rose? Police informant. Ed Kemper idolised the police and drank in cop bars. Who it was escapes me but there was also a guy who wasn't a cop but went for ridealongs with them........

There was also a CIA document in the wake of the JFK assassination that suggested anyone with a contrary narrative to the Warren Report should be called a 'conspiracy theorist'- of course, the CIA clearly killed JFK
