I did wonder what was in all those barrels...
Of all the theories for the sinking of the Mary Rose, "It was overladen with sausages" is certainly in the top five weirdest...

Shame they got the year wrong...

Fancy coming up with a name for my new friend?

Help jij mee? Dien je suggestie in via de website 👇

You talk about me a lot because I'm the most popular thing in the museum!
Happy #InternationalDogDay!

My human visited the Spanish galleon currently visiting Portsmouth, and spotted a rat in their hold.

Wonder if they want me to pop over and sort it out?

Bluesky is asking me to confirm my age.

I was on the Mary Rose - if I'm not old enough I dread to think how you lot are going to fare!

I recognise that board!

Not to mention the leg at the top of the photo...
When you're bored at work, you play games on your phone - on the Mary Rose they played backgammon!

This finely made backgammon board, complete with counters, belonged to the carpenter, whose importance on the ship meant he could afford to spend money on such luxuries.

Huge thanks to my lovely friend @squigglethinks.bsky.social for sending me a birthday card!

Let me know next time you're in the area, be nice to say hello properly!

Age verification?

When I was a pup, the rhyme went

"Divorced, beheaded, died,
divorced, beheaded, current"
Age verification?

You know how people feel old when they remember being at school watching the Mary Rose being raised?

We were the ones raising it.
Age verification? My oldest proper memory of school was everyone being brought out to watch the Mary Rose being raised on a wheeled out tv.

It's my Birthday!

Well, my discovery birthday; I was actually born in late 1543/early 1544...
#OnThisDay, 12th July 1981, Mary Rose divers uncovered the remains of a small dog outside the carpenter's cabin.

This dog, nicknamed Hatch, has become one of our most popular exhibits and has followers all over the world!

Happy Birthday, Hatch!

Not one of mine, I should add.

Even if it was installed during the refit of 1536, that's still eight years before I was born!
The Mary Rose had two brick-built galley ovens, both damaged when the ship sank. One was rebuilt, but the other has been as it was found.

Unusually, one of the bricks has a dog's paw print in it!

Shame, would be nice to meet the Titanic's dogs!
On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

Can I be the obligatory non-muppet actor?
So, important question.

If they made yet another film about the court of Henry VIII, which Muppets should play which roles?

Has it really been 15 years since I was displayed at #Crufts?

Yes, you read that right. Me, a 477+ year old mongrel, got invited to Crufts. Dreams can come true...
