Ah, I see your point. When some women were harassed at night in Medina, 33:59 told “Muslim women” to cover for their safety - since they were the ones being addressed by revelation - not because others were “fair game”. Claims otherwise are either a gross misreading or deliberate distortion.

Islam doesn’t give license to assault anyone, sexually or otherwise. So maybe whoever is looking for that sort of interpretation is projecting their own internal issues?

Don’t know to be honest. The point was their behavior is sinful and abhorrent from a religious perspective. Mosque-goers, typically individuals striving to improve their spiritual and moral lives, would, and should, have been outraged by their actions and for bringing the community into disrepute
