It’s a counterfactual but would Doug agree that it would’ve been infinitely preferable to buy & co-build Japanese Soryu Class subs? Especially as it would allow us to distance ourselves from the Americans without fundamentally compromising our defence capabilities (by not being dependent on them).

Question for Doug. Starting with the premise that AUKUS is a disaster, would he agree that the failure of the 07-13 Labor government to order a Collins class replacement ultimately led to this situation where the right has been able to shape the debate & lock us in with the Americans?
