Finally we can know for sure if the critics or the editors are to blame for the state of NYT theater! Helen Shaw is unimpeachable, but then again I thought Jesse Green was fine at NYMag, so could be the Times is cursed. Glad they left my girl Sara Holdren alone though! www.nytco.com/press/helen-...

I have a firm do not acknowledge policy when it comes to seeing celebrities in public, but I just made a major exception to fan girl out at Sara Holdren.

WFHB in Bloomington, IN let me and my brother on the air once a month when we were weird teens as part of their larger weird teen program. Youth Radio meant a lot to me and made me a much cooler person. wfhb.org/ways-to-dona...

If I see one more play where the actors keep interrupting the action to explain the play’s subtext and themes to the audience, I am going to scream. You’re supposed to write that in as part of the play!!!

In my mind, this means Patti recognized that Audra is great in Gypsy: as a world-class hater, didn’t want to compliment her. Because surely if Patti Lupone had something negative to say, she would’ve said it.
And THIS is what happens when you bring up Audra McDonald. 👀

Love looking at the donors list of small off-off-Broadway theater companies and seeing names progress from Theater Person Who’s Been Doing Well > Theater Person with TV Money > Theater Person with Movie Money > Old Rich Person

Ok you KNOW I love Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins, but a) Purpose may be his weakest play, and more importantly b) how funny would Pulitzer Winner Cole Escola be?

Once again, a way-too-expensive star vehicle on Broadway that I had decided was unlikely to be worth the cost has cast a character actor I love in a supporting role

Dan Deacon in a tiny vintage clothing store in Bloomington, IN. I was one of maybe 12 people there. We did a singalong to Stay by Lisa Loeb.
Also, Roomful of Teeth in some tiny LES loft, right after the first album but before the Pulitzer. They ran out of seats so I sat on the floor right up front.
What musical act did you get to see in an intimate setting? Because it was before they got big or after they had their huge moment?
