At this point, I don’t trust anything I read about the Israel-Iran War. I have lost sleep trying to follow all the bombings, but I am still not sure just what has been destroyed, how many people have died. Even the footage is too poor by 2025 standards.

Welcome to the Turkish version of the simulation.
Man, news cycles from two weeks ago feel like they happened decades in the past

This may be an “oh my god!” moment for now, but most historians and sociologists of science know that it will start looking like he said/she said to the reading public in a couple of years or maybe less. Time changes so much.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ousting all members of a key CDC vaccination advisory committee and replacing them with his own picks.

The move appears to contradict a pledge he made during his confirmation process.
RFK Jr. ousts all members of CDC vaccine advisory panel
Kennedy said the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, a group of experts who recommend vaccines, has been "plagued with persistent conflicts of interest."

It looks like we’ll have to learn to live without Internet before we learn to live with AI.

'UK universities are an incredibly cheap place to fund research. The exact cost recovery varies but overall universities only secure about 60% of the cost of research (excluding unfunded scholarship) from grants. The shortfall is paid by fees from teaching international students' 1/2
Good take down from @profserious.bsky.social of the fashionable idea that we should replace university research with institutes. We need different models for different disciplines, and the pipeline of talent needs universities

This kind of plausible deniability gaslighting combo is very common in the United States. It’s not just the Republican Party and not just the politicians. It is almost like a widespread metastasis originating from a cancerous corporate culture.
TAPPER: I have a hard time thinking that if a D president held a dinner for investors in his cryptocurrency, you wouldn't be outraged

MIKE JOHNSON: Look, I don't know anything about the dinner. I was a little busy this past week, so I'm not going to comment on something I haven't even heard about

I don’t mean to gainsay an eminent economist and a fellow countryman, but US did not become powerful because of its science. It deliberately developed its scientific infrastructure because and after it became rich and powerful. JB Conant said it best in 1948.

Maybe this is because MA is doing alright with the way things are and OK is struggling. I think we need to think more seriously about cause and effect in this election.
But don’t worry. Oklahoma is buying thousands of Bibles for their public schools.

Today, Penn Faculty for Justice in Palestine, Huda Fakhreddine and Eve Troutt Powell have filed a motion to stop Penn from handing in documents to the Committee on Education and the Workforce. This is the new McCarthyism. The witchhunt has to stop.
