Last week the wife accidentally bought some Sainsburys mince pies which had icing on top (as if a mince pie isn't sweet enough). Just now she's come home with some Waitrose limoncello mince pies. Very tasty, but I can't help feeling my festive season didn't kick off properly yet because I

Hmm. Mastodon introduced quote tweets recently. This is the first time I've used it, but obviously by the time it makes its way here to BlueSky, it's difficult for the @sociab.li bridge to present it as anything other than a big fat "RE:" link.
So yeah. You might see a few of those.
RE: https://social.heise.de/@heiseonlineenglish/115587443618813840 In my job we need to concern ourselves with how third party tools handle data, and *where* the data gets transferred to. Apparently we need to avoid it leaving the UK/EU. So even no US. I always found this tedious. Surely

I gave a #sotmeu talk yesterday about OpenStreetMap notes. I'll write it out as a blog post soon, but for now these are the things I was showing: https://harrywood.co.uk/maps/notes/

The brilliant Robert Whittaker @rjw62 presenting his "Survey Me" tool https://osm.mathmos.net/survey which brings together bugs data from his other various tools, to show things which are good to fix while out and about in the UK. Must remember to use this. #sotmeu

Sarah Hoffman develops the #OpenStreetMap search system "Nominatim". She's leading a discussion with the UK mapping community at #sotmeu (and prompting much laughter) with the question: "How can we organise tagging of boundary data in the UK, in a way where I *don't* need to understand

On the Caledonian Sleeper, on my way to #sotmeu ! I'll have to wake up in time to disembark at 06:11. Not sure what I'll be able to do in Dundee at that time of day. Any suggestions? A cafe breakfast would be ideal, but it's a bit early for that.

Excellent London #ruby user group this evening: https://ruby.social/@lrug/115526913153973583 Interesting tech topics plus a bit of politics from @Floppy to spice things up a bit. (Although someone made a good point: if DHH is going to be racist, then that shouldn't be described as

I haven't always been very good about donating to open source software I use, but me and the kids have had so much fun having multiplayer games together on @Luanti (and not buying Minecraft) so I'm bunging them a wee donation: https://floss.social/@Luanti/115520760327879578

After writing a blog post about Repton 3, I have to confess I've been wasting my life playing through the old games on jsbeeb, challenging myself to complete the puzzles which I wasn't smart enough to manage when I was little, first on the original, then on "Repton Around The World", and

The guy doing the TV weather explained that there's some strange flickering caused by missing data due to the AWS outages this morning! Quite funny. I should've recorded it. The iPlayer weather doesn't show it.

I read "Orbital" by Samantha Harvey. Booker award winning short novel. Lot's of slow paced adjective-laden descriptions of the views and the experience of being on the International Space Station. I'm interested in all things space, so should've liked this, but... I suppose having read a

Doing some paper mache. It was supposed to be the 5 year old's show & tell project, and a fun activity with the kids. For a while they were loving it (but laying the paper very haphazardly). Now they've got bored and gone to make another mess upstairs, so that leaves me carefully laying

My twitter account is now mostly for arguing with racists. Feels like I'm in the viper's nest today, steeling myself for the pile-on of racist responses, and wondering if I should make the account more anonymous. So who is this high profile white-supremacist that I find myself a bit
