Although the news coming from the US is generally depressing, I look forward to seeing the formal notification to the UNSG of the US withdrawing from the Copenhagen Accord, Cancun Agreements, Chile-Madrid Time for Action, Glasgow Climate Pact, and so forth soon.

I'm very proud that Patrick Toussaint successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the UEF Law School today on the extent to which international law can help climate victims in finding solutions to loss & damage. Thx to Prof. Margaretha Wewerinke-Singh for acting as his opponent!

Great to see Department of Land Economy colleague Prof. Jorge Vinuales intervene on behalf of Vanuatu and the Melanesian Spearhead Group & make a clear argument for states to make deep cuts in the production of fossil fuels and address fossil fuel subsidies

Now starting to wonder if the Azerbaijani Presidency is pushing the narrative - see this piece by the COP President, which is simply incorrect ("combined with" suggests that the 300 bn/yr does not include private and multilateral finance)

And now also the new draft decision on the NCQG, suggesting 300 bn/year from 2035, but also launching a "Baku to Belém Roadmap to 1.3T"
Also a gentle request to increase grant financing to SIDS/LDCs
Will this be acceptable to Parties? We will soon find out.

New texts are coming in from #COP29. No reference to fossil fuels in draft decision on UAE dialogue on implementing the global stocktake outcomes, only reference to relevant para 28 (which includes "transitioning away from fossil fuels", but "transitional fuels" (i.e. gas) are explicitly mentioned
