I just found an artifact from the War of 1812 (US infrantry-circa 1798) on the edge of our pond. I'm pretty sure the next incursion will be with drones or other such horrors.

It was every bit as surreal as I'd imagined. During totality, the birds got quiet for a minute. Then, as the light returned, they were chirping as if greeting the dawn.
