Vinyl record collector, cat dad, work at a university by day and a stereo store by night (or weekend). More than once I’ve filled my coffee maker with yogurt.
I am not immune to the charms of “K-Pop Demon Hunters”. It’s my favourite movie of the year, and quite likely my favourite album, too. For realsy.

I don’t think any of us had “not one but two new studio albums from Aesop Rock” on our 2025 bingo cards, but I sure am glad he was feeling productive.

December 11, 2001. A happy 24th anniversary to No Doubt’s “Rock Steady”. This album has aged fantastically and if you haven’t spun it in a while you definitely should.

“You got me feeling hella good
So let’s just keep on dancing”

Wishing a happy birthday to Tom Waits. “Blue Valentine” features “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis”, so it’s seasonal!

According to my Apple Music recap, “Untouched” was my most streamed song of 2025, and it wasn’t even close. Not sure how that happened. Oh, wait, yes I am. It freaking rules.

The Veronicas, “Hook Me Up”

As I said, I’m not doing a formal Album of the Year countdown, but I am spinning my way through some of my favourite 2025 releases. Next up is Haim’s “I Quit”, which puts the pep in my step.

Wishing a super happy birthday to Britney Spears with “Oops!…I did it again” and its Megadeth-album-title-like grasp of punctuation.

I decided not to do a formal Album Of The Year list this year. But, if I had, Oklou’s “Choke Enough” would be near the top. This has become one of my go-to albums when I’m working or just need to focus.

“The one wrong song, telling me I’ve been here too long
And I’m gone
I am over it”

Mondays, amiright?

The Dandy Warhols, “Welcome To The Monkey House”

It ends here with Radiohead, “In Rainbows”

There are about 2 dozen others in the book that I have owned and discarded over the years, and maybe another 50 I only have digital copies of, but this is the end of those I can pick up & hold. I go into more detail on IG.

The only Black Friday shopping I need to do today is at Aesop Rock’s “Black Hole Superette”.

No one ever enunciated the word “was” like David Johansen.

New York Dolls, self-titled. Canadian 1st pressing.

You wanted the best and you got it! For the past 9 years, I’ve put up the Christmas lights on November 27 and celebrated with Kiss “Alive!” And I see no reason why this year should be different.

David Bowie, “The Next Day”. Although tempting to pass of its inclusion in the 2018 edition of the book as recency bias, Bowie’s penultimate album deserves to be there. It’s a culmination of all he’d done to that point but also completely unlike anything else he’s done. #harmas1001albums , 451/1001

Portishead, “Third”

This is how you come back after a 10-year hiatus. It sounds nothing like their first 2 albums but is unmistakably Portishead. I don’t reach for it as often as their others but when I do I’m instantly rewarded.

Mike Oldfield, “Tubular Bells”

On my shortlist of favourite albums of all time, I own more individual variants of this album than any other. Also, here is the new reissue of his 2003 digital re-recording of the album in its entirety. It doesn’t hold a candle to the OG. #harmas1001albums , 449/1001

Teenage Fanclub, “Bandwagonesque”

The great thing about everyone in the band having a hand in the songwriting selection is that every time you think you have a handle on this classic album, it goes in a direction you don’t expect. It’s awesome.

The White Stripes, “White Blood Cells”

I bought my CD at the Tower Records in Times Square, NYC on release week and it flipped my world around. I love it so much that my phone’s Lock Screen has been a tribute to it for the past few years.

U2, “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”

Maybe the most forgettable album in the book. I forget it exists & when I do remember I forget every song outside the singles. My CD has lived untouched in a CD wallet for 25 years & it’s likely going back in there for the next 25. #harmas1001albums , 446/1001

Air, “The Virgin Suicides”

Even though I got it a few years ago, my 2000 U.S. pressing remains one of the “pinch me! I can’t believe I own this!” items in my collection.

Wishing a super happy 60th birthday to Björk! Here’s “Army of me” meeting an Army of Roland. “Post” is one of those albums that just makes me happy every time I spin it.

I’ve never connected with the Flaming Lips the way so many others have. I appreciate there is immense talent, but they just don’t hit me where I feels. “The Soft Bulletin” comes closest to stirring something in me. After 26 years I’ve accepted I’ll never be a rabid fan.

Just saw that Gary “Mani” Mounfield of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream has passed, just days after his 63rd birthday. My afternoon playlist was immediately set. Rest easy, Mani.

Time to do my “Homework” while Working From Home. It’s our building’s annual fire alarm test AKA the cats’ least favourite day of the year. Sorry, boys. Maybe Daft Punk will drown it out.

Hole, “Celebrity Skin”

Released in September 1998, only a couple of weeks before I moved to Japan, this was one of the final albums I bought before moving and will forever be linked to that period of my life.
