Towns and homesteads were forcibly evacuated to make way for the Hanford Engineer Works of the Manhattan Project. Very little remains today: 1) the high school at the town of Hanford, 2-3) the bank at the town of White Bluffs, 4) the warehouse at Bruggemann Ranch.

On assignment! Returning to make new photos of Architect John Yeon’s amazing houses—Watzek House and Cottrell House—in the west hills of Portland. Couldn’t have asked for better conditions for the shoot! Will share the results in the near future.

These exteriors of T-Plant, the original plutonium separations plant built for the Manhattan Project, were shot on large-format sheet film. They were developed by hand in accordance with Secretary of the Interior Guidelines to ensure they meet the archival requirements of Library of Congress.

The world’s longest continually operating nuclear facility, T-Plant was originally built to process uranium fuel slugs that had been irradiated in Manhattan Project reactor to separate plutonium. I made a new historic survey of T-Plant during the summer of 2024.
