Was the same under Reagan when it was the USSR.

Eventually the Russians caved after destroying their own economy and making life miserable for their citizens in the effort to defeat the US in the Cold War.

Reagan did the same in the US; the USSR ran out of money first.

Doesn’t anyone remember?

Let’s not forget that a $140M fine is nothing more difficult than paying cab fare for a billionaire.

$140M is only .14 of a billion. Musk has $335B. The fine is de minimus.

We’ve long had in the US the habit of imposing fines that sound huge to ordinary people but mean nothing to offenders.

I empathize

I can’t agree with this post.

Many people make misguided decisions; who among us hasn’t?

I think we need to welcome all who have come to realize that their trust has been violated and want to move in a different direction.

Wouldn’t we welcome and extend compassion to anyone who escaped a cult?

I hated them with a vengeance too.

That’s why it’s so unsettling for me to have to regard one even more dangerous and vile today.

I was just a tiny child in the era of Nixon and Kissinger but their corruption did influence me and I’m sad that their actions were my first political memories.

Horrible like the EU where 90% of the ppl feel assured of food, shelter, healthcare and education?

Where people enjoy fair employment contracts so don’t feel constantly threatened?

Where people are unafraid of random gun violence?

I lived in the EU for years so say this list could be much longer.

EVERY country should do this

AND, if you’re not a sourdough fan, a fat slice of sweet batard would be very nice!

My ugh would be the honey but I still stand “it’s a great toast idea”.
December 5, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Well, nothing to say but yum!

I have to disagree with this statement.

Reagan was a personal nemesis of mine and his policies made my young adulthood difficult.

I lived in the EU while GWB ruled and didn’t think I could be more embarrassed.

Those two don’t hold a candle to the carnage this criminal is inflicting on the US.

That’s hilarious!

I believe that’s a true story

Why, this caused me to tear up a bit.

BTW, good on you for resisting the Black Friday/cyber Monday pandering for quarter results to back earnings projections by the corporate vampires.
December 2, 2025 at 4:49 AM
Same here…many corporate giants in their ever growing monopoly of the retail sector are harder to quit than others.

I am grateful to Costco.

They’ve held the line on treating employees and consumers decently for the entire 2 decades I’ve been keenly watching.

Not just for political points lately.
December 2, 2025 at 4:46 AM
That’s so true!

I’m tired of hearing that it’s an “entitlement program” even though everyone worked for 40 years having 15% (through direct or employer matched taxes) withheld from the true imaginary number: gross pay.

Exception: those wealthy enough to enjoy the phase out on assessment.

Doesn’t that whole cabinet including the “president” and, more importantly, his handlers need to be removed and prosecuted?
December 2, 2025 at 2:40 AM
They keep hating women because, well, we don’t care to return to the days of “they can’t buy us but they sure do own us.

It’s a very sad bunch of people who are so insecure and spiritually unattractive that they can’t have anyone without controlling them through depriving them of all agency.
December 2, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Oh my goodness MAGATS (I refuse to call them Republicans because they aren’t), did you imagine that your leader and, more importantly, his puppeteers wouldn’t turn on you if you didn’t tow the party line?
December 2, 2025 at 2:29 AM
I’m not really sure we need new laws.

We just need an environment in which the ones we already have and our constitution and precedent rulings are enforced.
December 2, 2025 at 2:23 AM
Oh, well, except for those 7 Democrats who gave up significant leverage on ACA two days after a shockingly blue win on 5 November 2025.

No, they don’t deserve blind loyalty.

Those too beholden to themselves to support the 90% of the population need to be primaried by the 90%.
