My second and last vampire, Gregor (the Younger) von Carstein. A headswapped version of the Cado Ezechiar model with the torn scabbard repaired with filler. Fits in with the rest of the force a bit more than his sister, so she might see a repaint eventually. Bio in alt text #warhammercommunity #WHFB

My Countess, Gretchin Von Carstein (bio in alt) based on the Ivya Volga model with tactical branch cut to fit on a 25mm square base. She had a sword to replace the axe but it didn't survive painting. Posed with a wolf from the Belladamma model which with the bats counted as a Winger Nightmare mount.

Soft reboot idea for Star Trek: borrow the computer idea from Wheelers, make it the red line by Earth instead of genetics as on canon, Data is an artificial human in the BSG vein instead of an android but otherwise his arc and development stay the same. Also, the skant stays in use.

The last of the wolves painted, in this case I used Fenrisian wolves as they were already built from long before this army was thought up. The army background (I'll post it up with the characters) justifies their far more alive status.

The first GW product I received was the Battle Book for WHFB 5th Edition, bought on a whim from a charity shop the same year 6th Edition came out with no prior knowledge of the company or game. 24 years later and I now have the rules book to go with it. #oldhammer #warhammercommunity

And I'll through him in here to show that yes, you're right about single-piece casts, and how fabric should flow.

While very well sculpted from a technical standpoint, the new Marauders and Darkoath show both sides of the coin of the trend at GW where the inspiration behind earlier iterations is abandoned and new sculpts are left either with nothing to read into or self-referential. #warhammercommunity

Closeup to show off the basing - the colour came from two oil washes and the leaf litter was from Green Stuff World (and were a pain to get stuck down anything like securely).

The Bat Swarms turned out greener than intended though in truth I didn't notice until comparing them to the Dire Wolves. One of those things when you're mixing colours by eye as required. Also settled on basing, with a scatter of autumn leaves to break up the monotony.

Not happy with how the wood is turning out, but getting there. May try out a new product. #wipwednesday

This was actually the first bat swarm built, less coherent as a unit and making use of a range of terrain pieces I had at hand.
October 20, 2025 at 8:06 PM
The bats came from a combination of endless spell and warcry models, mounted on old forest terrain branches and an old resin basing component. I used a spare scenic base from the Belladamma Volga model to make a two base centrepiece.

Wolves and bats of my Vampire Counts force finished. Lot of difference between the first and last wolf though I wish the camera showed the subtle colour graduation on the later ones. Onto the bat swarms next, which took a bit of work to model with variety between bases. #warhammercommunity #WHFB

Can also heartily recommend a pad of these tearaway palettes for anyone working on their minis with oils.

A unit of Dire Wolves joining the Fell Bats, and the scheme holds up across both units. Can see the difference between first and last painted as I got more confident with painting in this style and with these paints. Some touchups to do, but otherwise pleased with the results.

Two units of Fell Bats for my Von Carsten army painted in as many days, a rate of painting I'd never have imagined possible in the past let alone with results I'm happy with. Feeling substantially more confident with oils, will finish the bases at a later date. Bat swarms next.

Oils do give some wonderful effects at speed, but fighting through that stage in the process where you question why you ever thought you could paint takes some effort. Did these with ivory black, raw umber, Prussian blue, starship filth, and titanium white. #warhammercommunity #grimdark

For base coating large areas the airbrush is brilliant, but I do need to remember to use it before painting anything else on the model. Would help if I had a place to leave it set up between uses, or if I could aim well 😆. #warhammercommunity

First attempt painting a model with oils, tutorial by @smash-bash.bsky.social on next to me. Big curve from acrylics but the in-process flexibility of oils is a big plus. Need to watch out for smudging out lighter colours but that's maybe a paint consistency thing? #wargammercommunity #nerdlings

Found this guy while reorganizing - test model from when I was looking at building an Empire army with the background of them being the defenders of Neuland, the provisional Provence established on Albion after the Dark Shadows global campaign.
