The whole show has a... I don't know, a kind of "young adult literature" vibe to it and It's awful. There are some good ideas in there but it's smudged with terrible dialogues and weird characters. It lacks morbid weirdness, gravitas. Feels like the showrunners were ashamed of doing an Alien thing.

The mechanical and hieratical nature of the afterlife could have worked, under a House of Duat / Court of the Dead aspect, revealing a kind of metaphysical kafkaesque horror. The thing is it was treated as just another world map, it lacked any deep spiritual significance. Such a waste.
