You are correct. I was thinking more about the water snakes in the southeast where I'm from.

A quick way to see if you should stay TF away from a snake is if the head is shaped like a triangle. The side parts would be venom glands making his head much wider. This guy is not venomous and looks like a common rat snake.

I had pet rats and they were the sweetest things. If I didn't have a roomate with a Cat I would get more. I cannot say enough good things about Rat-pets!
