I'm partial to tenor myself :) The recorder is such a natural instrument that people assume it's easy to play. It's way harder than the modern flute imo, at least to sound good. Because it's basically a tube with holes, the physics means you have to tune each individual note slightly as you play it.

Precision machinery and large-scale production I guess. I played a Yamaha flute for years. They make professional-level instruments as well as quality student instruments. Students can become very discouraged if they're playing a rickety tinny-sounding thing they have to fight. Wish they made harps.

This is a copy of a death mask decorating the county jail. The fellow's head popped off as a result of the only public hanging in the county. (That really happened.) Haunting began when the mask was removed and stopped when it was put back (legend).
