I'm not feeling the video editing mojo today and so I'm doing a bunch of adjacent chores -- rendering the 3D satellite imagery of the day's route, animating the route graphic, writing out a bit more of the narration, adding links. That kind of stuff.

Okay, one more: Midwest. Me in a Santa suit. And the Wienermobile. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wienermobile
I hope I'm not going to have my #vegan card pulled.

Surprisingly high turnout for the #madisonwi Santa Cycle Rampage. Probably 50-100 Santas, elves, reindeer, ... And -17C/0F
Shout out to the Wisconsin Bike Fed for organizing and not calling it off!

Does it make a whole lot of sense to buy a German railroad discount card for a year when I live in the US? Probably not, but Deutsche Bahn sent me a 80% offer and I guess I'll be in Germany at least twice in the next year. Trraaaainzzz!

I was browsing through some of my photos, searching for overpasses in Madison. Which, as a side effect, yielded some nice train shots from Graubünden.

What happens when I read about potential pasta tariffs and then also find a good online deal...

Alright, it's time to start editing episode 6 of our Alps #biketouring adventure. In which I am irrationally(?) angry at a bike path; we have to walk up a road for the first time, arrive in the Dolomites, and have the first pizza of the trip.

It'll take me a […]

@Tim_Eagon The Southeast Area Plan was at the Transportation Commission yesterday, and yeah, there were a lot of missing sidewalks! And some differing opinions on them. https://madison.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=14991698&GUID=68154790-C00C-44B7-AC31-A06E4F4C6A17

It took me over two hours after work to finally motivate myself to go ride the indoor trainer. And, to everyone's surprise, I feel much better after doing it. I also broke the 1 kW power output threshold, if only for 2 seconds. Those Zwift timed power segments are fun.

Madison has some long signs. Here are the longest by character count, according to the city's open data portal. All of them somehow related to parking, standing, and stopping […]

Huh, adding the new iPad to our Google Fi plan was super smooth. Scan QR code from Fi account with the iPad, confirm, wait 30 seconds. Done. No additional cost either on our plan. Every once in a while I look at other mobile plan options, but for us Google Fi […]

I have been collecting a lot of 360 degree street level imagery in #madisonwi for @mapillary and @panoramax during the past two months, as part of the #completethemap challenge. Now I can focus on using the imagery to update @openstreetmap One area of focus […]

I managed to do things on the internet for 82 minutes before encountering the first #cloudfare outage-related issue. Pretty good, I'd say.

@Andres4NY You probably already know this, but some support for quote posts was included in the Nov 8 release of Phanpy.

Belated report from yesterday's #coffeeneuring2025 ride to Fat Cat Coffee Works in New Glarus. Absolutely gorgeous day for it. And Fat Cat is a wonderful small town coffee shop, right on the bike trail. I had the cold brew, which isn't the greatest coffee, but […]

I'm finally back to video editing. Episode 5 from my 2025 bike trip through the Alps has been mostly stalled since the spring. Today I recorded much of the remaining voice over. If everything goes well, I might finish the episode this weekend. You can watch […]

The advantage of waking up way too early: it's 7 am and I already have baked fresh bread. I'm slowly getting to the point of having fine tuned temperature and time for the new oven. 470 F and a baking time of 29+25 minutes (lid on/off).

#coffeeneuring2025 Ride 5: Alice Good in #veronawi. The weather is supposed to turn wintery tomorrow and so I headed out to Verona today. Alice Good is a really great coffee shop: High quality coffee, very friendly staff. Their hours used to limit how often I […]

#rstats #rspatial #tmap geek question: I need a log10 scale for my line widths, which I can get with `tm_scale_continuous_log10`. But in the legend, I'd like to have "1, 10, 100, 1000" rather than "10^0, 10^1, ..." I haven't been able to figure out how to do this.
