It's a common myth but their healthcare is no different than what other federal workers have which include co-pays, co-insurance, premiums, PPOs, etc.

They do pay monthly (about 1/3 of the premium)and select plans from the ACA. They don't actually anything special. But they do have access which is more than some do currently.

They are required to purchase their insurance from the ACA marketplace. But it is subsidized so they pay about a 1/3 of the premium

It's not a golden parachute. It's called FERS. OPM website explains it. Payout based on years of service and avg salary. Same for all federal employees including Congress. 20 yrs of service pays out about $40k/yr give or take. And you receive it around age 60/62.

It's about a 70/30 split on $2k+/month cost with the lesser amount paid by the congressman. Not free. Still marginally affordable to the insured but does highlight how expensive healthcare is for everyone including public servants, private companies, non-profits, and small businesses.

The tax payer paid about 72% of the premium and the insured pays 28%. A family plan costs over $2k a month with the insured paying about $600-700 a month depending on the plan chosen. It's similar to how a company covers healthcare for is employees.

Actually you don't have free healthcare. They receive a subsidy and purchase it from the ACA marketplace. And they don't get healthcare for life unless they retire with 20-25 yrs of service depending on their age. And they still need to pay a portion of the cost.

They already know that. It's not a secret and wasn't one on Jan 20. They all knew how to win him over.

She doesn't really get much actually. She'll get a minor pension for her years of service when she's 62. And no healthcare despite what everyone likes to believe. You need 20 years of service for a full pension that is only a portion of your pay.

Actually I'm all for eliminating health insurance companies. They are one of the reasons our healthcare system is so expensive. Though good luck doing it. Also don't trust this administration to handle this correctly. But the goal isn't a bad one.
