Ok I did in fact manage to eventually find the source where they'd claimed it's trying to be cheaper www.roadtovr.com/steam-frame-...
Steam Frame’s Price Hasn’t Been Locked in, But Valve Expects it to be ‘cheaper than Index’
Steam Frame, Valve’s next VR headset, has been announced, but the company has yet to reveal the price. However, the company says its goal is for Frame to be cheaper than its first VR headset. Steam Fr...

If I may hazard a guess, they probably decided to move a lot of that power to the Steam Machine and make the wireless streaming more seamless so that it could be basically the same experience as that original plan for a more reasonable price point for most people.

The early prototypes of the Index would've costed, from what I recall, estimated of about 5000 or so USD. They clearly didn't actually put that out as the finished thing.

Also, I don't know where people heard this, but I've seen some say they've mentioned shooting for cheaper than Index..?

Worth a mention the way the device worked during said rumors vs. how the device works now are seemingly different. Rumors described it as being a standalone headset focused on running games locally. It is now a headset focused on streaming games wirelessly that technically can run some stuff locally

Descent is a 3D game where its environments are, as I gather, formed out of deformed cubes internally... figuratively *AND* literally. You view the cubes from inside them! Also, Sega Saturn games are, as I recall, made out of squares.

Maybe this system is trying to follow suit. I dunno!

Like I dunno, I'm pretty sure as varied as music genre names get and all that, there isn't anything in any other medium like "roguelite" to describe something like "thing that has a few elements of a thing that has a lot of elements of a game called rogue" that I can think of, for example.

Honestly names like that one are a surprisingly good demonstration of why I do not like how game genre names have been going and I feel like the problem is somehow only getting worse over time instead of better. It's... really something, given I've considered game genre names a problem for a while!

Side note, but, good time to mention: Registered Thanatos 3D is lost media by most evidence. Heck, 1.0 shareware version subtitled The Challenge seems lost too. Given there's a debug hotkey though, I wonder if the registered version even actually properly exists...? Game feels slightly unfinished.

Me posting on here about DOS games that almost nobody has heard about like Thanatos 3D: Army of the Night/Thanatos 3D: The Challenge shouldn't be a surprise to people who know me well enough, honestly.

i used old gamemaker versions when i was younger. i don't remember exactly how old i was, but it's not important, the important part is that it means i was amused when i saw it.
