Our Akitainu, Nezuko, came down with a mysterious illness and has been admitted to the ICU emergency vet since Saturday. So far, medical costs are at $7,000 and climbing..

I'm offering vinyl stickers to help aleviate some of the costs ;;

But I’ve been busying myself with work and touring potential apartments and going for walks with little Cedar.

Up until the X-ray we just assumed she would get better and the reality of that was very difficult for everyone. It’s like 1/1000 chance to get it that young. 💔

The worst part was seeing her decline so rapidly. Had we known earlier I would have said goodbye a lot sooner. Her bloodwork was normal and we only found the tumor when we had X-rays done as a last resort to check for a potential blockage / reason for her recurring GI issues.

We ended up saying goodbye at the vet with her late last Thursday. I’ve been taking it one day at a time, and having Cedar helps a lot. 💔

Made an appt to say goodbye 5pm Friday / literally been crying every day this week

We thought it was stress but this morning an X-ray showed a mass in her chest. She’s not even 4 years old and I haven’t stopped crying. Surgery would be too risky and expensive and could only give her months or a year at most. 💔

I'm hoping we'll be able to spend some time back at home this weekend at least so they'll get some exercise and she'll start feeling more like herself again.

It feels like a never-ending game of challenges. We've been at my parents' too since everyone keeps getting sick at home this time of year. And in this area the girls don't have access to their mountain walks or our friend's big fenced yard. We still go for walks around here but it's not the same.

Over time, her excessive drinking has gone down. But the stress has affected her appetite and she's gradually lost interest in her kibble. I started her on a bland diet of white rice and boiled ground turkey today to see if that will help.

That night she started drinking water excessively and woke me up at 1am to go potty. The drinking compulsion was sticking around during the day, so on Monday I took her to a local vet near my parents. Bloodwork and urinalysis confirmed physically, she's healthy, so vet advised we just wait and see.

On 12/14 I crated Pumpkin as usual for a couple of hours while I took her sister to training class - but my nephew's birthday party was downstairs and I have been paying for it ever since.

They also pay 100% of my medical and dental premiums. My boss has been there for 20+ years. They’ve been around since 1984 and don’t really do layoffs because if a project contract ends, they just move you to a different project team.

They also have free healthy snacks in the break room. So I get to try all kinds of special chips, olives, snack, bars, jerky. Basically food is a huge motivator for me in general.

So it’s really nice still having that flexibility. So far I usually go in a couple of days a week because at least one day they do free catered lunches and on that day I usually eat and drive home and finish my work remotely.

It’s hybrid with one day in office, but you only have to badge for a minimum of six hours and it’s easier commute wise when you can leave earlier and make up for it once you get home.

It’s been a little over two weeks and I am settling into my new job! I am getting to learn how to do the things I always wanted to do at my previous job but they didn’t have an opportunity beyond the membership program.

There’s like just enough chipping on the rim of the small bowl to make me nervous about using that one but I’ll get the fam’s opinion too. BIL may have tools to smooth it.
