You're right, the texts I read in K-12 were exactly that. But, there are more histories than that--things like memoires, books told from the perspective of POC, oral histories (like your Irish acquaintance). I want to collect a variety, so we have different perspectives surviving into the future.

I agree, sadly. And, I'm getting a gnawing feeling in my gut that we should acquire as many physical copies of textbooks as possible that tell the history of Native Americans, black people, LGBT people, and immigrants in the US. Our existing books might not be available for the future if we don't.
