Today I saw ~8 year old twin girls in their soccer uniforms be dragged along and made to look at the place a man’s life bled out.

It’s disgusting. It’s a willful introduction of the traumatic reality of gun violence into their developing minds. And I’m sick of it.

My colleague was walking outside past a man and his ~5 year old son a week or two back and she heard the little boy begging to leave because he was scared the bad guy would come back and shoot them too.

And I wish this was a strawman argument and not something I see very real people do literally multiple times a week while I’m at work.

Feeling the same. No matter how many years away from from the institution, all I can picture is my childhood congregation and being in an identical building to this violence

Literally exactly where my brain went to!

If the person had fled
inside the building they’re guessing the shooter was at, I 100% know there is camera coverage in there.

But it would make no sense for the person to go back inside from where they were at when there are 3 separate (easier) outdoor directions they could go in the fray.

ever going through a building or anywhere where the main camera system would be. The roof is even exterior access.

Basically I’d guess you’re probably right about a lack of solid video outside of the building they’re focusing on, but I disagree about the school not having safeguards in place.

to have full camera coverage for and have little need for based off of campus demographics and historic safety data. Where you’re right is that this space is 100% all part of that outdoor zone so there’s probably little to no video. A person could fully enter and exit that part of campus without

I’m going to say you’re both right and wrong. They have pretty solid interior camera coverage, which as a school is where they need to have their “act together,” and they do. But it’s a public regional university with a ton of outdoor walkways and spaces that would be prohibitively expensive

It absolutely should! I love this, thanks 🥰

But it is the way laws work when you live in a theocratic, one-party red state whose legislature determines which state schools get funding based off of if they’re happy with your politics, not your student success metrics.

Which, by the way, is not how laws work.

My institution spent the last year fighting back by complying with the actual, written law by moving the support services to general access offices and allowing intercultural engagement events that are open to everyone to continue existing.

We were told we needed to follow the “spirit of the law.”

The legislature has forced the closure of all “identity-based” programs and centers designed to help students over the past year, shuttering resources like child friendly spaces on campus for single moms, lgbtq group therapy, multicultural celebratory events, and so much more.
