Retired engineer (or at least that’s what they called me), woodworker of sorts, occasional doodler, dreamer. Living the life in Houston, TX. Him, he, hey you.
Still toys- for big boys! 😁

I’m about to use one of my new “toys”. It’s all dialed in and ready to make holes.

I’m building a small side table out of walnut. It’ll have a one-piece top made from the end of a slab I used on a previous project.

Yeah. Buddy of mine did that on a hike. I saw the turn and heard the “pop”. It was two miles back to the vehicle. He made it, applied ice and beer that evening, next day laced up high top boots and carried on.

In my opinion, a pleasant listen for a Sunday night.

It’s delightfully overcast in my sector this evening, so this is as close as I’m getting to seeing tonight’s super moon. 🤨

It’s a chilly and wet evening in my sector. Just dropped needle on a 52 year-old LP that I purchased new.

I might have a few years behind me. Externally, anyways.

Spent a day in San Antonio, one stop was the Alamo. Pieces from Phil Collins’ collection of Texas Revolution artifacts (and others) are on display in a new building.

Next day toured Natural Bridge Cavern, I hadn’t been there in 25 or so years. Do stop if you’re ever nearby, it’s a treat.

Got to see the ISS overhead this evening, it zipping along at 17,500 mph.

Chances of seeing northern lights, most likely zero at my latitude while in city. I could drive an hour north for a better chance.

I think I’ll just wait for people to post images.

Treasures from the storage closet. A Brownie camera from around 1946 and a Minolta from 1956.

I’ve run a roll of film through the Minolta- it has some lens degradation so the photos have some haze. Maybe I’ll try the Brownie for some grins.

It’s been a good day. Got the oil in my gf’s vehicle changed, sorted a closet, did laundry to get it out of the way for the weekend, and there’s a pot of chili simmering on the stove. Time to relax.

This was eight years ago, she’s been gone seven years. Water consumed, might have tears later.

Going through photos, this was fifteen years ago. Damn.

We were right in front of the right hand side speaker stack. My hearing was affected for days. And probably still is.

Meanwhile, I went to an airshow last weekend and enjoyed listening to the sound of multiple round engines.

Photos were taken by me. Nikon D850 with 200-500 telephoto lens.

Then went to see the Lost Austin band that evening. Bunch of old dudes that play real good.

One week ago, I was at the Plain of Six Glaciers near Lake Louise, CA. The rock wall is not close, it’s a distance away and very tall. The glaciers are retreating, another hiker told me he had been there 30 years ago and was shocked to see them now. Elev is 7900ft where I took the photo.

It’s 91F, 29% humidity, a pleasant breeze is pushing the leaves around. Chamber of Commerce weather for Houston. Just don’t visit in August.

Best part- no mosquitos! It has been dry lately, poor things.

As Charlie Brown would say, “Augh!”

I hope you get a good nights sleep and tomorrow is a better day!

I accomplished making “ocean” today. Plumbers putty and oil paint mixed together, it looked ok. This was a test batch for my little ship-in-bottle. Now to make more and get it into the bottle.
September 26, 2025 at 1:40 AM
A little paint touch-up, test glue bond on lines, almost ready to call the ship done.

I might try a light tan colored wash on the sails, they’re too “white” for canvas that’s been out in the elements. Will practice on some spare material before committing to potentially screwing something up.
September 8, 2025 at 4:01 AM
Finally got to the point where it was time to check fit- mainsails in place, critical rigging and such added, does it fold down?!? It does!!!

Now it’s tedious ratline work, install the rest of the sails, and figure out the “sea” in the bottle. Plumbers putty and oil paint- what can go wrong?

Enjoying the outside this evening at a local brewery. Came for the food truck as I was desiring a cheeseburger, stayed for the brews.

It’s a pleasant evening by Houston standards, storm blew thru earlier followed by dryer air which is always a blessing around here.

Btw, djt is forever a pos.

In case you were interested, here’s a convenient chart for pairing beer with your favorite food. This was part of a talk at New Magnolia BC in Houston TX this evening.

Good beer, good people.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Eight years ago today I watched the water rising behind my house. It was an unpleasant feeling as I knew what was going to happen in the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Harvey was doing its thing.

In a way, it was a blessing in disguise.
