Was preparing a talk about industrial emissions & like to illustrate with local examples. Place is is close to a chemical cluster in German state Saxony-Anhalt. Pic (CC by-sa FotoFitti) left is a coalplant, largest emission source in S.Anhalt. I want to talk about the 🏭 on the right. 🔌💡 🧵

Proposal by @nworbmot.bsky.social to use Methanol as a long-duration electricity storage. I was skeptical at first, but the idea is to combine it with a bunch of other technologies and concept, notably cycling the CO2, and using an oxyfuel tech. Very interesting and promising.

Is it just me that I find it slightly concerning that Climeworks already sells offsets for a plant that is not operational yet? Article worth reading, balanced, but highlights plenty of concerning issues with Climeworks. heatmap.news/economy/clim...
