Malka wanted to hit her. She really wanted to hit her. More tempting, more damning, more frustrating, was the knowledge that Lavender would let her. Despite the pain, she'd let her do it again and again because it couldn't do anything; it would be a powerless outburst. "Why are you so obsessed with playing this game?" Lavender almost smiled. "You've never taught me any other games to play." Malka almost ignored her. She didn't hit her. She paced. How? was her better question, blaring in her mind on repeat. How could this be coming from her loyal, docile little Lavender? She remembered a thought she'd had in the original practice interrogation: Tell me what's going on in your head. Tell me who taught you how to do this. Tell me how long you've been capable of this for. Tell me where the hell this came from. Tell me what you did with the little girl who wanted to sleep in my bed when she had a bad dream. But Lavender wasn't that little girl anymore. Maybe she never really had been.
