Ok I may have a little turtle obsession but look at these guys- 18 of them in a turtle traffic jam last night! Why, when there was empty beach all around, I have no idea.

This one came up almost right at our feet this afternoon (we backed up quickly though it didn’t seem to even notice us). It definitely earned its nap after all that effort!

Capping off sabbatical with my first ever trip to Hawaii to meet my "rest and reset" goal (highly recommended!). Highlight so far: Honu (green sea turtles) sleeping on the beach

OK, one more addition to my list of Pedantic PI Edits (this one 100% channeling my postdoc mentor)

It occurs to me that I should just make a style sheet for the lab rather than individually inflicting these lessons on each new lab member.

Already ate tonight's up (tortellini with pesto, tomatoes and peppers), but here's an earlier pesto pizza (my favorite way to eat pesto). I squirrel away pesto in the freezer all summer so I never run out in the winter.

4 cups pesto (most I’ll freeze), dehydrator full of the rest of the basil to dry, and two pints of pickled peppers

And here’s Elizabeth Marsh with hers last night. Thanks to everyone who came and talked to the students at their posters- they had a blast and came away full of new ideas! #SRP2025

We got her! See replies to the quoted posts for the story.
Photos from the cat rescue person who took her home last night. Good news: definitely not feral and can get adopted. Bad news: she may be pregnant again.

So close! She somehow knew not to step on the end that would close the trap. Will keep trying. In the meantime three other cats (all looking quite plump) have appeared on camera and the possums have been feasting.

Hell yeah Brandeis student support team giving evidence-based advice! 👏 (On something we have had to consistently explain to the IRB)

Home grown plum jam - there is something anciently satisfying about preserving my own produce to share and enjoy in the depths of winter

I have been feeding (so I thought) one small black unhoused cat. Set up a camera because we’re now going to try to trap her for either TNR or adoption depending on how wild she turns out to be.

Well! turns out I’ve been feeding the whole damn neighborhood!

The return of cool weather and my return from a conference trip are confounded (additive? Interactive?) factors in predicting the cats velcroing themselves to me today.
