Recently visited a high school student newspaper staff and talked about the importance of journalism standards. We discussed how standards separate their work from so much else online. I encouraged them to publish a code of ethics as a staff. Went back last week, and they did! 🥹

Waiting for Bryan Stevenson to take the stage at #NCTE24 and holding my copy of Just Mercy and photos of the newspaper staff that I help advise at Eddie Warrior Correctional Center in Oklahoma. These writers are brave and inspiring, doing the incredible work of reporting on life behind bars.

@noupside.bsky.social hits the nail on the head in her newsletter on the recent Pew study about news influencers: Many of these content creators depend on the *original reporting* produced by traditional newsrooms.
