Brooklyn, please share: My neighbor Patrick George is missing. He's 87 years old, and he has Alzheimer's. He was last seen about 24 hours ago in Park Slope. I hope he is back home safe with his family soon.

If you know a teen who's struggling with college admissions, I hope you'll share this essay that I wrote with them. komericanpie.substack.com/p/issue-21-l...

I was honored to share this piece, which I wrote several years ago, with Sarah Choi and Aram Kim's wonderful newsletter, KOMERICAN PIE.

More on why the large, corporate pharmacy chains got the vaccine first... because when the federal govt stops handling things, capitalism wins.

LOL not me receiving an email from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene bleating about no-cost vaccine for private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid despite me being forced to pay out of pocket this weekend and multiple similar reports I'm getting on social media and via friends.

Why do we need this $? The Korean American Artist Collective began in the pandemic, so we rarely have the chance to come together in person. We just presented our first group exhibit in DC this weekend, a healing experience showing art's power to make social change. We want to keep this work up!

Korean American Artist Collective, a very special group that I belong to, is a finalist for the #goldfutureschallenge! That means we're getting anywhere between $25k-$100k in funding—and what makes the difference is YOUR VOTE. Please vote for us here & share widely! goldfutureschallenge.org/vote/

Anyway, now the motor is cleared out, there's a nice, clean filter in there (pictured here), and hopefully mice will stay the F out. The repair folks told me to try some peppermint essential oil. >_<
July 6, 2023 at 4:27 PM
Here's the disgusting little nest. Thankfully, there were no mice, dead or alive, in there. They must have run off after I tried the AC earlier. The repair fellas told me some grisly things can happen when people just run their ACs anyway...
July 6, 2023 at 4:26 PM
Turns out some mice chewed a freaking hole in the AC filter and built a little nest in the blower motor!

Here's a photo of the filthy filter (which should have been changed... a long time ago) and weird debris.

Just got a lovely little rainbow up here in Ithaca, a welcome gift after several days of storms and wildfire smoke from Canada. <3

I'm at a residency founded in memory of the late Korean American scholar Sue-Je Lee Gage, and I love having access to her books. Here's a photo from a book that shows life in Seoul from 1876-1910: "Girls carrying water jars on their heads." I love them.
