Who got executed? The alleged drug dealer awaiting trial, the DPRK broker who safely returned home, or the ex-diplomat who also safely returned?

The gist is to categorize proponents of the Chinese society into two groups - the people, the ruling class, 人民, and the masses, the subjects, 群众. Altho the Chinese state uses both words interchangeably, it more than anyone else believes in this dichotomy.

Today, as China faces far too many enemies to bother, at home and abroad, this dichotomy is less relevant to what @cinnabarocean.bsky.social , @shuizaiping.bsky.social, a few others and myself are working on - the People-Masses dichotomy (人民群众二分法).

What a delightful newspaper it was! Now it has to repivot to "educate young people to wed and build families" (acwf sources...) 😭😭😭
