Got a vaccine this morning that knocked me over (shingles vaccines are no joke). Hanging on the couch is pretty nice with some company though.

This guy (girl? Not up on owl sexes) sat there for an hour and a half, grooming his feathers and looking majestic. I hear him every night, but this is the first time I’ve see our resident great horned owl.

Today’s subject in Poppy’s course on camouflage is chameleons. She learns by imitation, as you can see, and she’s hopeful for a high grade.

Yes, I know he’s not behind bars, but as Junior’s counsel, I keep an eye on his wellbeing. There have to be some places in this benighted country where lawyers know what’s happening to their clients.

I thought I’d share how I train Pippin not to do something, which has proved pretty successful:
1. Shoo pippin away gently
2. Repeat every few minutes until it works (it won’t) or until you’re tired of it
3. Convince yourself that it’s actually fine that Pippin does it
4. Declare victory

Bird update! Two chicks, and busy parents. I think one of these is a cuckoo, based on the photo of the eggs from last week, but I have no idea which one it is. I’m going to guess the one on top.

This was several weeks ago vs. today (odd lighting—the smaller eggs are the same color). I’m no expert, but it looks to me like a cuckoo got to this nest.
