This photo is absolutely incredible, both how the owl is like a perfect topper for the pole, and also the precise angle of that single sleepy eye. Most cartoon face I’ve seen IRL in a while!

Gorgeous! Where is this?
February 21, 2025 at 10:19 PM
I see it too, alas.

I was immediately suspicious but then doubted myself, as someone gave me a hard sell, and have since done so little frontend work that I have no informed opinion on this.

So, love your take!

(Of course, I agree that all caveats about easy gender generalizations apply, but we speak more simply to make the claim distinct.)

Interesting. Tracing the idea here. So, men are socialized such they more readily claim expertise on very little experience. When tech & tooling that is entirely novel appears, those who quickly move with confidence in that space tend to be men, while others take more time? An unfair advantage.

Totally! As someone with little patience to even draw the same character twice—never mind from different angles—I stan!

It’s also such a cute choice to make one character so sleek and brooding while the other ranges into total cartoon. Perfect way to show-not-tell the awkwardness & joy of flirting

Wow! This was so good, thanks for sharing. I admire seeing this kind of art style done with such finesse, and for such a sweet story. Lot of skill to nail the anatomy with such simple lines, and I thought the cadence of the flirtation was perfect. I feel invested in these characters now!

Just looked it up. Thanks for adding to my knowledge in this area!

> AI (esp low level hw/sw)

Interesting, what does low level mean here? Like, the way that GPUs have enabled certain kinds of AI processing? And the intermediate abstractions that make it easier to leverage the advantages of GPUs? (Speaking from very limited knowledge)

…thus sending said someone careening across the room, boinging off walls and furniture as your points accrue

We can amuse ourselves by making needlessly gendered versions of diagnostic acronyms. e.g. for stroke:

Face (chiseled one side droopy other)
Arms (swole but inert)
Speech (strong, all too silent)
Time to (man up)

Huh. I guess it’s unsurprising if there are fairly rote ways that medical studies segment by gender, so that 1) there are scant incentives to gather statistically significant data on anyone not a cis man or woman, and 2) it’s hard to reason about the role of gender as a mitigation or accelerant 🤔

Lovely sketch! What kind of lead is in those pencils? The depth of the dark graphite around the head looks like…4B or beyond?

was there any element of interactivity
November 19, 2024 at 5:05 PM
Huh. So depending on how you hit ‘em—angle of attack, speed, mass—you’ll get an entirely different reaction?

Once I booted an old laptop & saw my old todo app. The tasks still vibrant with urgency, “DUE TODAY.” But with the gap of years, the context no longer held me, so it was just a sweet time capsule.

Nice to remind myself that the only time I’ll truly have no to-do’s is when I’m dead.

Periodically I archive items on the list. This is surprisingly gratifying. I have a separate doc where I write, “this no longer matters:” and list the todos I no longer need to care for. Sometimes a relationship or job role shifts and you can toss reams of ‘em.
November 19, 2024 at 4:51 PM
Less metaphorically tho. I also have ever-growing todo lists, and it’s been freeing to give myself different angles on the practice. I list bc I’d rather know than not know. Much of what I say I’ll do or what others wish me to do prove irrelevant after a while. The list is just a first draft.

Compost pile. The to-do items that sit for an atrociously long time MAY transform into loam—in the best cases, able to give a bit of context for newly seeded to-dos to bear fruit.

Lack of the expected Korok reassuring us we’re firmly planted in reality
November 16, 2024 at 11:25 AM
Makes sense, that WAS a dramatic word choice on my part. Mostly thinking about those moments when I’m zoning out and suddenly realizing everyone is expecting an answer from me, but I only vaguely heard one or two key words before the attention snapped to
