I feel compelled to tell an even worse story. I was in a pub toilet and an impeccably-dressed man used the urinal next to me. I noticed a puddle form under him ... he was so plastered that he thought he'd taken out his penis but had actually taken out a testicle and was peeing down his trouser leg.

once I saw a guy who pushed down the tap, briefly ran his hand underneath it, *missed the water*, and then just left ... as if the symbolic gesture of going through the motion was enough

another interesting one is "penguins are extinct". the original bird that was named a "penguin" turned out to be unrelated to the subsequent birds that were named "penguins" based on assumed relatedness. that original bird is now extinct. it's sort of a version of Gareth Evans' "Madagascar" scenario
