This is… poorly written, right? I’m no journalist, though I’m not sure the writer is either, but this reads like a C+ current events report in a 10th grade world history class.

Damn son. I love how thorough this is. It gently holds your hand and walks you through what happened, how we got here, and what happens next.

I know pundits (derogatory) like to post ideas and “let you connect the dots” but I struggle to see how that is what Robin is doing here. I truly don’t see the connection.

Well that’s kind of my point. I’ve read your post throughout and there is still a leap between his remarks and proving he is saying trump isn’t a fascist that I can’t find. Sorry if I’m dense, but it seems there is a logical leap being made that is unsupported.

Damn my reading comprehension really is shit. When does he say that specifically?

I’m “steel-man”ing the argument, but the observation that “calling him a fascist isn’t politically expedient, so fight him on merits because he’s weak” seems fair. Agreed he is too focused on personal shit, but this level of needless infighting seems unhelpful. Also fuck Ezra Klein (not infighting)

I could have missed something, but it seems you are equating his claim that “calling trump a fascist isn’t effective” to “trump isn’t a fascist”. These two views aren’t mutually exclusive. Can’t you argue that while he is a fascist, the term isn’t effective enough for the broader movement?

This first graph is the equivalent of the “dead dove: do not eat” warning. The “I don’t know what I expected” is implied.

I do think the argument that “Paramount only cares about money. If Colbert made them more money, he wouldn’t have been cancelled” has legs in a different political climate. Today that is just a tragically outdated take that misses both the forrest and the trees.

I do think algorithmic engagement plays a big role here. Facebook and YouTube have provably incentivized rage bait. Not to mention the more opaque reels and TikTok. These guys are finding solace and community in these probably fabricated stories painting men with a particular world view as victims.

I understand and respect the burden of expectation she is dealing with here but wow. The rationale is such an interestingly bad take from a person who usually has good opinions. This reads like NYT think piece (derogatory) but better written.

Hey does some know the number of farms in Arizona vs the number of server farms? Might be cool to know.

I also wonder how much of Brown’s loss can be contributed to his targeting by pro crypto groups. He certainly had a target on his back

See you’re forgetting the secret to cheap goods made in the U.S.: child and slave labor.

“The look will change. The slogans will too. But the performance will remain: a man offering a caricature as comfort, selling certainty to those unsettled by change.” Terrifyingly succinct and devastating stinger summing up the whole of the manfluencer movement.
