the allston taco bell (formerly the Great Scott music venue) is so depressing. there used to be something here. now there’s just self order kiosks.

I can't speak too much on the decisions that went into it, but the sound design by Otter really sells the atmosphere. You'll have to play it to see what I mean :)

There's some neat tech under the hood. we use signed distance fields of circles and arcs to construct the level. (The editor for this came out very satisfying to use!)

This lets us create "blobby" rounded level terrain with accurate normals for collision handling. Very cool!

this was a super fun project to work on. @soulware.us and I worked with an artist (our friend grody), and Otter Eve doing audio. we've been wanting to make a game with a dedicated artist for a while, and this let us make a far more visually interesting game than anything we've done before.

Street Shuffle by Slice of Pie Games (@casitamono.bsky.social et al)

novel premise, cute art, fun animation that helps it all feel alive. the gameplay is pretty derivative and the mid-endgame drags on, but i was surprised by how rich with art, features, story, worldbuilding this student game is

Spelunky (2012) by @mossmouth.bsky.social

i'm so late to this party. i started playing spelunky a number of months ago but recently got back into it. thrillingly punishing and wacky & incredibly elegantly designed. i hear the sequel's great, but i refuse to play it until i get that true ending...

Cape Hideous (2024) by @jakeclover.bsky.social

incredibly unique art style and deeply creative world. it's very short and interaction-light but each scene is very detailed and filled with strange, wonderful life

Arranger (2024) by Furniture & Mattress

another puzzle game with a colorful, pretty artstyle from an argentinian designer. this game is really clever! not terribly challenging but a good adventure that never runs out of little twists on its main ideas

Storyteller (2023) by Daniel Benmergui

i LOVED dragonsweeper and after hearing him on a podcast, decided to see what else D.B. has made. very novel idea -- you see a lot of puzzle games that are variations on a theme (e.g. sokoban) but storyteller feels wholly original. the art is cute too.
