If it came from the southwest US, then I’d guess Mesquite. Especially if you can see black flecks in the grain.

I’ve had Gorilla Glue fail after a few years. Perhaps I didn’t apply it correctly, but from now on I use Titebond 1 for most applications. Titebond 3 when I need more time to clamp or outdoor use. When the joint is loose or otherwise need gap filling, then two part epoxy. Contact cement occasionally
