Wow. The guy who brought a Holocaust denier to the State of the Union. What a shock.

Yeah, it's just a performance. It is all a function of, dare I say it, privilege.

The Holocaust, you see, "has been used as a weapon" against Christians.

Finally, someone is standing up for the true victims of the Holocaust: Christian people.

You sound very sane and normal.

So in 55,000 hours, he is only denied the Holocaust in a few of them?

This is great stuff but we also need to advance economic policies that actually affect how people live day-to-day — broad strokes. Massive antitrust legislation, attacking healthcare conglomerates. Real stuff, not nibbling around the edges.

Ah. "This nice thing I did for you is actually about me my need to center myself."

Slightly updated version of 'I'm doing this for your own good"?

Look, I was on the plane one time and that island has an excellent tennis court. Let's not make a big deal out of it.

What do you mean he can't do a thing about it? He could ban her.

I am explaining why your comment came off as flippant and callous. If you are as interested in fighting fascism as you say, you should be interested in knowing how to communicate effectively. That includes projecting empathy.

That's cool. I think in a situation like that it's important to offer a little caveat. Like, "This definitely sucks. I'm directly impacted by the shutdown but..."

Or whatever is appropriate for your situation. Just so it doesn't feel like you're volunteering other people for hardship.
November 11, 2025 at 3:06 AM
Come on, man. You know what's going on here. We were talking about millions of people who aren't getting a paycheck and you gave a sort of "sacrifices must be made" energy. It came off as flippant. It's okay to just acknowledge that and move forward.
November 11, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Yeah, this is one of the things that really troubles me. I'm all for playing political hardball and we need those health care subsidies, but these are real people who are suffering real hardship heading into the winter. That also matters.
