Surprised he hasn't made a video about headlights yet. Because it's insane the amount of technology the rest of the world uses, that wasn't even legal in the US til 3 years ago. What amazed me was that European cars have leveling sensors in the suspension standard to prevent blinding oncoming cars.

A lot of that is due to mounting height. In the EU they are regulated to be no higher than 42". In the US the limit is 54". They pushed for it to be higher because they thought trucks would be ugly with lights lower on the front. Add lift kits in and plenty of trucks are well over the limit.

Kamala refused to distance herself from Joe biden, un objectively unpopular president. Her most popular talking point, building homes, she reeled in. And she came off as a hawk at the DNC bringing up the military. Her entire campaign was alienating anyone who wants change as an appeal to the center

Hillary was an establishment dem who was run to get Bernie out or the race. She was unpopular for her hawkishness and lost the youth vote after pushing Bernie out. The Bengazi and email scandals reached a lot of people too and made them stay home. This was combined with not taking Trump seriously.

As consumers are forced to pay more, they buy less overall. This effects American businesses as well. Building American factories to replace products takes years and still more expensive shrinking the economy. This forces a cycle of scaling back and firing people potentially causing a depression

Funny enough though the closest we get to sustainable living in the US are trailer parks: Tight communities of mass produced homes. Unfortunately they are most prominent in places where they are incompatible with the weather, they lack mixed zoning, and you don't own the land you live on.
April 9, 2025 at 9:56 PM
I feel that, although that style of living isn't necessarily sustainable either lol. But I do understand it. The cost of home ownership extends much further than just the house.
April 9, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Like, yes, you can want to live your best life, and still understand that the system that enables that lifestyle is fundamentally broken. That there can be something better, but what we have been told to want is a contradiction to what is good for society and the world.

They blocked me too. Probably thought I was attacking them for wanting to live in one of those rich middle class neighborhoods. Idk.
April 9, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Throw gerrymandering into the mix and even some of our major cities end up going red. It was so bad we had cities chopped up into 4 and mixed with huge rural districts. Drive through those areas and you'll find people with multiple acres covered in security cameras afraid someone is after them.
April 5, 2025 at 4:42 AM
But the crime narrative works. If a drug deal goes bad and someone gets hurt, it goes on the news and everyone thinks that city is scary and unsafe. The more the media does this, the more people blame democrats and think Republicans will save them from crime.
April 5, 2025 at 4:40 AM
Ohio has bought hard into the crime narrative. I tell people what neighborhood I live in and they are convinced I must be constantly in fear for my life. But we walk down the streets every day and it's fine. There are issues and I wouldn't want to send a kid to school here, but it's not dangerous.
April 5, 2025 at 4:38 AM
Unfortunately I am stuck in Ohio, and could never afford to move to California. Ohio has fallen deeply into the far right grift over the last 20 years. And it's hard to uproot your whole life and leave everyone behind.

And the biggest thing is they have continued to back Republicans against the union leaders recommendations even as they ran on policies like right to work, and removing the ability to strike from anyone who does state contracts. They've literally voted away their own power and paychecks 4/4
April 5, 2025 at 4:27 AM
I've talked to people in my union about contracts and how we are the lowest paid in our region, even against far smaller cities, and they often will defend the contractors instead of putting up the smallest fight to make any demands. 3/
April 5, 2025 at 4:25 AM
But now, even in unions, people don't fight, they don't even do the bare minimum of going to meetings. They just see a small opertunity to get better benefits than a non union shop. Most are just going day to day trying to make a living to survive. 2/

Working class people have fallen for the neoliberal scam. That trickle down economics works, and they don't want a change because maybe some day they'll be rich. Unions used to be about brotherhood. The working class united to force their employers to see who makes their money. 1/

This one covers the financial side a lot better though.

If the city has to choose to fix a pothole on a main road that 2,000 cars drive down every day, or a suburban back road that 50 cars go over a day, they will choose the main road every time. Not saying it's your fault. You're after the American dream. It's simply poor city planning.
April 5, 2025 at 4:07 AM
Doesn't matter how affluent the neighborhood is, it comes down to density. These developments are often far removed from the city and require more maintenance per tax dollar. Even though property values are lower in the city, density leads to more overall tax value.

Unfortunately most of the old guys in the union only care about their retirement and the young guys see it as a free ride for free trade school. Class consciousness is dead.

Fair, if alternatives were available. But generally it's them, renting "luxury" apartments, or buying a house built in the 1920s that comes with historical house laws, requiring time period accurate materials. So you can buy a house for 100,000, but it will cost you 250,000 to replace the roof.
