Not only did they have to please book fans, who all get something different from the story, they also had to introduce non-book fans to the universe, and as a book reader I really enjoyed and appreciated what they did.

I genuinely believe Rafe and the writing team did the best they could with the restrictions they were under. Converting a 14 book series to a rumoured 8 seasons of 8 episodes each was a monumental task.

Absolutely. I honestly do sympathise with those that are upset, but the fact is that with the time constraints the show is under, there are going to have to be unpopular decisions made, whether that's plot or character changes, to fit the main story arc in the time frame originally mentioned.

I hope so, I was loving the friendships he was developing in The Two Rivers and I really want to see more like that.
