Special edition of bikeshare chronicles: coordinating a whole Bay Wheels photoshoot around downtown Oakland! This project was stressful but had really satisfying results.

📍 Prescott Night Market, West Oakland

Didn’t need bike valet, but love that it exists. I encountered a totally filled bikeshare station (good thing there was a 2nd nearby), a fried rice burrito (not a great format, but tasty), and a dance-off!

One of my fav places to go by bikeshare…….a Ballers game! This ride was special, bc my mom and sister were down to try their first ever bikeshare AND ebike. They loved it.

Also Ballers won at the bottom of the 9th!

📍 Oeste, in Old Oakland

New-to-me venue, to meet up with new-to-me friends, where we heard lots of incredible new-to-us artists perform

It was First Friday AND the curated show was all about Pilipino folk arts. I think heaven is probably a bit like the OMCA lawn: an abundance of lovely people, great food options, music + dancing.

Didn’t feel like carrying my bike down the stairs, and didn’t have to with bike share!

Grand Lake Saturday: Sirene for pastries, Walden Pond for a card, Alkali for vermouth, Arizemendi for pizza….feeling very cosmopolitan and dink-y, ha.

A few bike share obstacles: dumpsters blocked our ride— it was a heavy, stinky lift. And I’m still not sure how to turn left from Grand to Harrison!

📍 Out and about in Oakland, CA

This week, bike share simplified my life as I hopped around for delicious bites. Pintoh Thai in uptown was divine, and Sirene in Grand Lake was exquisite. Already dreaming about the next time I can go to either. There are bike stations everywhere!

📍 Lake Merritt

New bikeshare station unlocked for me! Rode to Lake Merritt to write in the garden. Stumbled across the Oakland Municipal Band playing vibrant musical numbers. I love it here.

📍 Telegraph Ave— hopped, skipped, jumped around from station to station on a Thursday night

Bike share is great for people like me who are often running late…..(😅) e-bikes get me there faster, and without being a sweaty mess!

📍 Bathers Library, Oakland

I don’t care what people say, Telegraph is my fav road to bike on *because* of the protected bike lanes

Tonight I spontaneously hopped over to read my friend’s zine collection— cozy evening!

📍 All around Oakland, choose your own adventure style (aka followed the vibes)

Today an e-bike (many small segments of e-bikes, really) brought me to the library, Oaktown Spice, Sfizio in Rockridge, and OMCA for Friday night fun.

Ah, I don’t know why I took such a bikeshare break! I was really sore from working out, so an ebike came in clutch for my meeting at City Hall. Those potholes felt extra bumpy today….

📍 Uptown Oakland

I met with my church for a contemplative Good Friday walk. There are so many beautiful murals that tell stories of grief, struggle, solidarity. Today always holds a heaviness for me.

Being with people was nice. Riding a bike was nice. I love Oakland so much.

📍 Downtown Oakland……to and from the Oakland marathon, and post-race carbo-loading in the country’s #1 food city ;)
March 25, 2025 at 4:59 AM
📍Oakland City Hall: I’m on an advisory committee for the Dept. of Transportation (I love the meetings!). Usually I take my own bike and use the BikeLink lockers or Uptown Bike Station. Today was super windy and I was late, so: e-bike!

-sigh- when I talk about it, I feel like the dweeb who peaked in h.s. and keeps trying to revive glory days!

Or like somebody who needs a new hobby (something w/ my hands?)

All this further complicated bc I work in comms! I’m tied to socials and my r’ship to “content creation” is forever changed!

It still feels a bit silly that “Instagram” was my art. But idk. It felt that way, and I was proud of stuff I shared there.

And now that we’re in a technocratic hellscape where social media bosses are villains, it feels less pure, much more icky, to share online.

📍West Oakland for Fans’ Fest. We love the Ballers! This year I plan on falling in love with the Oakland Roots + Soul, too.

I’m super impressed/stoked for the Prescott Market food hall. Big props to whoever figured out the vendor lineup!
