Cycling Hamilton's Wilson Street

It's not a part of any cycling route, but I've constantly heard other cyclists say that they prefer cycling eastbound on Wilson over cycling eastbound on the Cannon Street bike lanes.

Perhaps it's time to add a bike lane on Wilson!

Slip Lanes are Dangerous to Cyclists

Many #HamOnt & #BurlOn intersections need to be redesigned!

When we have slip lanes at intersections that also have bike lanes, we encourage drivers join roads at unsafe speeds & at awkward visual angles.

Since Plains Rd in #BurlOn has large gaps in its #cycling infrastructure, taking Townsend Av can be a great alternative.

That being said...

The smaller gaps in cycling infrastructure can be just as dangerous!

From Fairview to York Bv in #HamOnt

I'll be getting back to some #HamOnt #Cycling content soon, but in this video, I bike the Westbound Fairview Alternative Route in #BurlOn & discuss how sometimes the "safe" option doesn't always look or feel intuitive!

🚲The Fairview Street Alternative Route🚲

This route in #BurlOn is fairly safe when traveling east.

Unfortunately, it brings #cyclists further and further away from destinations on Fairview as you go.

But, considering how safe it is, I highly recommend it!

#Cycling the Plains Road Alternative Routes

When entering into #BurlOn from #HamOnt, York Bv and Plains Rd seem to be the most direct route. Unfortunately, Plains Rd only has limited infrastructure.

Knowing this bike route can keep you safe!

Cycling Fairview Street

This hwy/stroad in #BurlOn is part of one of the few "safe" ways to cross the QEW.

It has bike lanes on it until the Burlington Go Station, and sharrows the rest of the way.

By the way... this is a 7 to 5-lane, 60km/h road!

Cycling Plains Road

In this video, I cover Plains Rd in #BurlOn from York Bv to Fairview St.

Ideally, it is best to take #HamOnt's Valley Inn Trail from York to connect to the new cycling infrastructure & Townsend Av to King Rd, after LaSalle Pk Rd.

Cycling York Blvd Northbound

This is my preferred route to get from #HamOnt into #BurlOn. It has some protected sections, but the high-speed roads later on are just painted lanes.

Take Valley Inn Trail as a safe alternative to avoid Plains Rd (west of S.G. Rd) though!

Westbound Cycling on Cannon Street

This route in #HamOnt is typically safer than its eastbound counterpart, but having to weave around parked vehicles and changing sides from one curb to the other can feel just as dangerous at times.

Cycling Melvin Avenue

This road in #HamOnt is essentially the continuation of Cannon Street.

It can get you to the bike lanes on Woodward Avenue, the Red Hill Valley Trail & across the RHV Parkway via the Barton Street Side Path.

So, it's a good one to know!
