This is like an ad for why tech can't replicate nature. From my local park, we're in a drought, and it's still nice and shady under the real tree...

Reminiscing about the fun field work that led to this paper. So grateful to everyone who was involved!

Work weeks like last one are a dream. As part of the Beijer Institute's Young Scholar Program, I got to meet with brilliant scholars from around the world working on theories, models and cases to better understand, prevent and adapt to shocks in an increasingly turbulent world.

International day of forests has me thinking about my favourite forest encounters this year. I'm so lucky to get to work with 🌲🌳 and 👥. From @nserc-resnet.bsky.social gathering in B.C. to PECS III in Montréal to @iufro.bsky.social in Stockholm

Some 🌳 species are important to cultures, but this isn't passive appreciation. Looking at ecosystem services + services TO ecosystems, we combined biophysical sampling of trees (122 plots) & interviews (31) in a settled landscape to show cultural sig emerges through active relationships.

Enjoyed the rewilding exhibit at the @museumofnature.bsky.social highlighting the links b/w social and ecological through art. I loved all the pieces but Xecê Khadija Baker's "performing community garden" and Hashveenah Manoharan's watercolours on plants, food and culture especially spoke to me 🌱🌰🍊

The first snow arrived in Montréal! Later than it should be, it really feels like a gift of a reminder to slow down
