Playing this game and trying to figure out all the secrets became an obsession for me.

Oghren could be such a good character if he wasn't a "drunk misogynist" joke. Like, there's an interesting guy in there...somewhere.

I see the vision and I love it.

In my wildest dreams I buy the IP rights to Dragon Age (and Mass Effect while we're at it) and hire all the old writers who poured their love and lives into it and just redo the whole series one after the other, ending with the version of Veilguard they wanted to make.

I'll throw out Deltora because I saw a few people in this thread saying it too, but also the Spider Ruders books, which the cartoon was (VERY LOOSELY) based on. I saw the show first and still love it, but these books were my whole personality for like a year.

So we'll see what happens. I hope it turns out great. I'd even take it being just good. And I fear the world where it comes out bad. If you're still here, tell me your favorite thing about Mass Effect, or how you got into it, or your own hopes and fears, or anything else really.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
I want to have hope, because I love Mass Effect. I'm not going to doom spiral until we get more info. But I can't help but wonder what will happen if the worst comes to pass. It feels like we're standing on the edge, and we're waiting to see which way the wind blows us.

We'll always have the OT. The story and characters will be with us forever, nothing can take them away from us. But nothing really kills the love of something quite like repeated disappointment, and ME has already disappointed us once, only to vanish for a decade.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
Or maybe it'll be the final nail in the coffin, one last crushing disappointment that ends my 2 favorite video game series forever. We can't really guess until we get our first look at ME5, and the longer it takes, the more scared I get.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
We all know, especially now, that Mass Effect is EA/BioWare's favorite child. So maybe it'll be fine, maybe they learned from Andromeda and Veilguard, and ME5 will be a triumphant return to form. Maybe it will even be enough to grant DA one final chance at life.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
So I'm scared. Because we waited 10 years for Veilguard, and while I liked it and will defend it with my life, it was ultimately a disappointment for longtime fans. And we now know exactly why it became what it is, and I can't say I'm not terrified for Mass Effect 5.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
Then we got Andromeda. And here's the thing, those early days were rough, rushed animations and writing made ME:A a bit of a let down, but I still played it and I still appreciated it for what it was. But it was the first sign of things to come, and now we've been waiting almost 10 years.

All this to say, Mass Effect brought me together with my best friend at the time. Even now that we no longer speak, I still cherish those weeks, playing Mass Effect with someone who loved it as much as I did. I still replay the OT often, and remember how it felt the first and second times.

We spent that weekend playing the whole thing. This was the ORIGINAL ENDING too, so we were shocked and appalled. So of we immediately had to pick up 1 and 2 and do it all over again, and on my 18th birthday, which none of my other friends were able to attend, we played through ME3 again.
June 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
And then a new friend picked it off my shelf and asked what it was. I forgot about it, so we threw it in and played through Act 1 in one sitting. We were hooked. That game, the amazing story and gameplay, is what cemented our friendship that night.

I LOVE Mass Effect. I even played it before Dragon Age. I picked up ME3 on a whim a few weeks after it released and then proceeded to meander through the CC and prologue for a week before setting it down to play other games.

There are so many neglected IPs I would buy if I was rich, all the Great games from my childhood would see the light again!

For real, like there were so many options. Sophie? Sciel? Lune might genuinely be the prettiest character I've ever seen in my entire life. But no, gotta go with the teenager to make your gross point.

Just got to the second area and the environments are GORGEOUS! It's also just really fun to play, I'm not usually that into turn based combat but I'm having a great time.
