#ActuallyAutistic • #ADHD • #AuDHD • Parent of autists • HS Math/SpEd teacher • Fat-finger typos • Trying, but burned out • Minneapolis area • He/Him
It took a month of off-and-on motivation to finish the last bits, but all #HalvarMtG is packed away after donating and condensing. Hopefully I'll feel the spark again some day.

Listening to <redacted> podcast on the way to school today, I yelled/happy-flapped in the middle of traffic hearing <redacted> describe, but not openly proclaim, that they Figured It Out.
I've been waiting for YEARS, knowing they need & deserve the other community they unknowingly belong to.

We're doing a school-wide rock-paper-scissors battle today. Winner gets a bracelet from loser. 5 bracelets to challenge a teacher for gaudy chain.

And it is SO wholesome. Unfiltered joy in something simple and silly.

Of course, if they want to come for the champ, I make them do it right 🤪

#Auctober Day 4:
Animal Friends

I got overwhelmed looking for pictures, because I broke my old phone a few months after we lost our last pup.

They were our babies before our babies. On our laps or our bed for 18 years. Can't say much more without blubbering.

After 3 years of fighting, arguing for equitable opportunity for my students, we have a new curriculum director who listened, and fought along side me.

$5400 of calculators that other districts require their families to buy, but is still decades-outdated technology.

#Auctober Day 3: Collections

Y'all....
From the early days of shiny rocks to current Magic cards and Battlemechs, the urge to have all the things of a special interest category is a compulsion bordering on physical sensation, though limited by funds 🤪

#Auctober Day 2: Infodumping

The love language of many neurodivergent people, autists frequently communicate in "burst transmission." We are excited to tell you about the thing– its corollary, hyper-specific details and all. We share ALL of our thoughts, and selves, uninhibited.

Introducing the real two-headed giant!
October is both #ADHDacceptance month, moving the narrative for #ADHD beyond "awareness," and #Auctober, an alternative to April's misinformation-laden minefield for #ActuallyAutistic folks.

Let the infodumping commence!

If you're not #ActuallyAutistic, you will never know the intensity of a Special Interest. Thinking of little else day and night for years, decades.

Magic isn't *Magic* anymore. It's a bastardized Fortnite-ification of what I loved, for profit, and this image made me die a little inside.

Things I hear from staff at my school:

•You sound just like my brother
•I don't get made fun of for my quirks here
•Folks here are real, let me be me
•I never really fit in anywhere until coming here
•It's odd and not for everyone, but we make it work
•I don't get the reputation, it's perfect here

The TI-84 Plus came out in 2004, twenty-one years ago! The Silver and CE editions of it are primarily cosmetic upgrades. The coding and screen tech are archaic by modern standards and can be programmed into a $10 toy.

Yet, it costs $120 because Texas Instruments owns the educational market. 3/🧵

A small look into systemic inequality and disenfranchisement in public education: This Damn Thing.

Graphing calculators are amazing tools for moving beyond the grind of calculation into the relevant How and Why of math, yet their prohibitive cost is a barrier for many students and even schools. 1/🧵

Tomorrow is the day!
The Ope Brigade will assist in defense of Luthien Armor Works from one final push by a pair of breakaway Smoke Jaguar heavy/assault stars.

Being killed in the previous mission, I was able to help plan opfor and told, "Be mean. Be really mean." Bringing 3 AC20s to a city fight 😈

Ankylosaurus, not even a contest. Fat little chonk of "Back off, I'm on my lunch break," with a wrecking ball to back it up.

(Also, I couldn't help myself)

Some levity for the skyline.

I have a zero-wincon Marchesa deck that is essentially, "I am the queen. I keep Monarch at all costs. Don't make me get off this couch."
I enjoy making players (particularly students) cringe by asking repeatedly, "You wanna bump my Flumph?"

I realized part of my massive disconnect with Magic (autsitic special interest) lately goes beyond the deluge of Universes Beyond products being extremely Not For Me™️.

Half of products not *being* Magic anymore also means all the YT/pod content I consumed is also Not For Me™️, anymore.

I could go on about how cool the campaign setup is, the quirks our DM came up with, but the short version is, I died... spectacularly.

Took down an Executioner, was holding off a Hellhound and Goshawk as the mobile HQ escaped and... was cored out from behind by a Daishi.
