The "name" spells in the PH are mostly invented (researched and created) by PC wizards in the game. Leomund was Len Lakofka's character. (I can only remember this because LL for years wrote a column in Dragon called Leomund's Tiny Hut.)

This is a good find, but I'll throw you a wrinkle: Gary Gygax did not create the spell Leomund's tiny hut!
