If a politician is doing something in which the visuals cause the primary effect, it really is meaningful how good they are at the visuals

Goldman’s a nothing who has only been in the House a few years and has performed pretty weakly electorally, whereas Jeffries is a long-time creature of the Brooklyn party machine; nervous centrist Dem incumbents will care a lot more about one than the other

Nothing more upsetting than to hear that the consequences for actual trans people of your more recent actions matter more than the nice broad-minded thoughts in your head

This is in really poor taste

The Hasidim at demos are Neturei Karta. Satmar are religious anti-Zionists but generally don’t engage in political activism around it

These guys suck and also have zero mass influence over Dem rank-and-file voters

The guy’s a historian writing about his area of study and describing nuances of political movement that aren’t captured by just looking at crowd numbers, which Stancil is distorting into some “anti-No Kings” position. This clout chaser framing is way off.

When did Johnston ever say that people shouldn’t go to No Kings or that it’s useless, etc.? He said something very different, that there are significant qualitative differences between forms of engagement in different movements that cuts against the reductive Stancil crowd count oriented analysis

Look how promising Whitmer’s prospects looked a year ago. Newsom may be #1 Trump Hater now, but there’s time

You’re allowed to just criticize someone for being a vocal NYC DSA member because you dislike what other chapters did at the convention, it’s okay, you don’t have to hide behind the “just saying it’s ‘interesting’” thing
August 12, 2025 at 5:56 PM
Why is it “interesting” to join NYC DSA after the “fiasco” led by DSAers in non-NYC chapters who have negative attitudes toward NYC DSA and the caucuses that dominate it (i.e. SMC/Groundwork)?

Don’t we see a willingness to disregard very strong reliance interests in the cases involving Trump’s mass firings of federal employees?

Isn’t that social movement exactly what we’ve seen being built with the escalation of anti-LGBTQ politics—including a resurgence of “think of the children!” anti-gay politics with, e.g., Florida under DeSantis—in the last few years?

Have you changed your position on the acceptability of killing Palestinian journalists?
Targeting radio and TV stations.
To date, most of the Israeli attacks on Palestinian Authority targets have struck me as utterly pointless. I understand their logic, as far as it goes....

I think the issue is that the “us” in the original post implicitly only includes us straight cis adults who would have had the “option” to get swept up in manosphere-esque trash? And ignores that many former gifted kids would not? Idk, it just seems like a point of clarification

First three Stormlight books are fantastic. Fourth and fifth drop off somewhat significantly IMO but are still very enjoyable.

As someone way to your left, I appreciate getting this stuff. We’ll need it for the Truth and Reconciliation Committee!
