We also show that the most disadvantaged ethnoracial minorities in French society are more likely to switch to "French by birth" citizenship, suggesting that such changes are a means of status upgrading. (3/4)

What drives this process of citizenship "reclassification"? Assimilation variables, such as nativity, length of stay, marriage to a French spouse, naturalization and residential mobility, positively correlate with this change. (2/4)
