Honestly, with all the time constraints and probably a lot interferences from the Hasbro's executives, I think they have done their best with the two specials.

The ending is more on the bittersweet note with open ending than the simple "characters being in a less interesting states"...

Robbie being too rely on the Emberstone to feel powerful can tie to his trauma with the Izzy incident. Also, Robby was feeling heartbroken and betrayed by Lizzy more than being traumatized.

We need to talk how Optimus Prime went through some serious shits in the last two specials, especially in the Legacy of Hope. Bro got captured, tortured, almost being drained to death, losing an arm and lost his "bro" twice...

I actually liked it actually, because it had a tragic flare to it, but honestly, the ending is still very hopeful for both Bumblebee and Megatron.
