The cashier at the gas station noticed the Vulcan script on my jacket today - nobody has *ever* caught that detail before!

Close up of some of the stitching on the back of the jacket, which is arranged along a vertical line and stitched in swirls & curly cues that resemble Vulcan script from Star Trek: TNG. It doesn't say anything though. The stitches, however, are real and necessary. When I took the jacket out of storage one autumn several years ago, that particular seam was threadbare and in immediate need of mending. So I made it look cool.

As an artist, this is what I geek out over. I *love* Chuck Jones' Witch Hazel cartoons because of the way he draws the backgrounds. Everything is simply drawn onto the walls - architectural details, the stairs, even the furniture! In this shot you can see an antique sofa and an ornate frame on the wall, but what's killing me is the tree behind her, which is in a pot that's also drawn on the wall - but the tree itself is casting a shadow! Fucking brilliant, I love it.

This is 200 lbs of actual gold, and it works. Not sure if it was sculpted or cast or what, but it's not just paint.

Also it's a riff on Marcel Duchamp's 1917 work, "Fountain."

I have a pic of my oldest in front of that fountain when he was only 3 or 4. And a tree there with a housekey stuck in it inspired my painting "Wizard Tree."
"Wizard Tree" acrylic on canvas, 2012. A stylized tree made up of swooshy lines with green swirls overhead for the canopy. The original of this sold at auction the day after I painted it, at an MDA benefit in Vancouver, WA.
