i think it’s a wall to protect herself. the warrior nun always ends up in tragedy and she didn’t want to loose another one of her girls. that way she acted cold so she wouldn’t hurt if anything happened to Ava. i do also think part of it at first was thinking why this girl was worthy when she wasn’t
