Assorted musings on books, Blackburn Rovers, politics, and the rest
The intellect and genius of Oscar Wilde oozes from the pages. Dark and so very clever.

Big Rovers team news - no Cantwell in the squad, Henriksson and Gudjohnsen start.

Great weekend in Greenwich making up for a pretty dismal #Rovers performance, losing 3-0. Far too easy to play though, could do with a decent result mid-week

Received as a gift - what a book. An astounding story of survival in the most appalling conditions. Japanese POW camps, slaving to build the bridge over the Kwai river, experiencing the Nagasaki bomb blast, surviving the sinking of a hell ship. Gripping but ultimately another life ruined by war.

Visited RAF Duxford in early August, an amazing array of planes, the absolute highlight being this magnificent machine. The only #SR-71 outside of the US

Sending off ruined the game albeit completely fair. Rovers played well with 10 for entire second half. Ohashi looked good, and the new signing Mori was quick and sharp when came on. Potential for a nice combo. Kargbo and Gueye poor #brfc

Another day, another tome. Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Willis is another book about sociopathic billionaires running the infrastructure of our 21st lives. Validates my decision to quit Facebook years ago. Terrible people would be a more appropriate title.

The single most terrifying book I've ever read. Highly recommended but beware of the existential dread it will instill

Dystopian holiday read that cuts a little too close to the Trump bone... An alternative history of fascism in America and its dark impact on a Jewish family

Very enlightening read about Open AI, and the ruthless ambition of Sam Altman. Similar in tone to Character Limit but with more commentary into the wider social impacts of the tech. Great stuff by @karenhao.bsky.social

Rattled through a few books recently. First up, Precipice,a typically excellent Robert Harris about the build up to WW1, Asquith and his secret letters to socialite Venetia Stanley. Astonishingly all the letters from the PM to her are real, around which Harris weaves his fiction

Random purchase detailing the decline and sidelining of the US diplomatic service, written by @ronanfarrow.bsky.social before we even get to the madness of Trump's second term, so not the most reassuring read.

Massively enjoyable comeback today against Watford, playoff dreams still alive... just. Thought Dolan was immense, put his heart and soul into it and thoroughly deserved his winner

First hand account from the guy who compiled the Trump dossier, and the subsequent nightmare it made his life. Interesting behind-the-scenes of the private intelligence world

Tremendous piece of writing by @praddenkeefe.bsky.social - the research and care for detail seeps from every page. Recommended for those like myself for whom the Troubles were distant, something your parents watched on the news.

Fabulous book by @ianleslie.bsky.social looking at the incredibly deep relationship between Lennon and McCartney, analysing both the conscious and subconscious messages in their songs. Brilliant to read his insights into the music while playing it in the background
